About the Role

 

Reporting to the General Manager - Pathology Operations, you will be overseeing the laboratory operations across the Queensland network, including the QML core lab in Murrarie. You will be responsible for leading laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with quality standards, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. You will represent QML Pathology to internal and external stakeholders, and play a key role in strategic planning and execution.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

 

  • Lead and manage core laboratory operations across multiple sites, including people leadership, team development, and performance alignment
  • Coordinate and participate in budget and forecast preparations
  • Collaborate with leadership to establish and implement frameworks for operational efficiency
  • Manage staff rostering, overtime, consumables volume and overhead expenses in line with fluctuating volumes and within agreed budget
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards
  • Drive operational efficiency and innovation
  • Foster a high-performance culture and support team development

You will have a background in science with strong commercial acumen, and a proven capability in leading high-performing teams and cultivating effective professional relationships, all contributing to the efficient and seamless operation of the laboratory.

  • Proven leadership experience in a large organisation, preferably in the pathology sector
  • Scientific tertiary qualifications and ideally postgraduate business studies or strong commercial acumen
  • Resourcefulness and strong analytical abilities
  • Highly developed communication skills and ability to build effective relationships
  • Understanding of quality assurance management concepts and their application
  • Knowledge of the regulatory framework governing the healthcare sector in Australia
  • Understanding of budgets, operational planning and problem-solving skills
