About the role 

Seeking an experienced and motivated Laboratory Technician to join our busy Microbiology Department. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced diagnostic laboratory, contributing to accurate and timely results that support patient care across Queensland. Your key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Processing and preparation of microbiology specimens
  • Preparing and setting up cultures for Vitek testing and other identification systems
  • Assisting with culture plate reading and routine diagnostic techniques
  • Performing data entry and maintaining accurate laboratory records
  • Supporting scientists and supervisors to ensure efficient daily workflow
  • Ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and NATA accreditation standards

 

About you 

To be considered for this position, you will need to have a great blend of skills, including:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Laboratory Techniques (or equivalent experience)
  • Previous experience in a diagnostic microbiology laboratory (highly regarded)
  • Familiarity with automated identification and susceptibility platforms (e.g., Vitek) desirable
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
