About the role 

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a multiskilled Scientist to join our high performing team in the Wesley laboratory.

 

The Scientist will have a deep understanding and a skillset across various disciplines of Blood Banking, Haematology, Coagulation, Biochemistry and STAT Microscopy.

 

We are seeking an experienced Scientist who is highly motivated to become part of a passionate, vibrant and engaged team who will be responsible for: 

 

  • Specimen receipt and processing
  • Use and maintenance of the following analysers; Beckman Coulter AU680, XN 1000, CA-660, ABL90 and 800 and istat, Grifols, Elecsys and DG reader, E411, GeneXpert and Aerospray 
  • Perform seminal analysis.
  • Perform urine microscopy and other basic microscopy.
  • QC monitoring
  • Participate in Internal and External surveys.
  • Maintaining all equipment and operating equipment in line with protocols 
  • Maintaining current scientific knowledge  
  • Participation in both routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities 
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required 
  • Compliance and adherence with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes
  • Liaison between other departments and external customers (hospital staff).

 

As the Scientist, you will become part of a passionate, vibrant and engaged team. Key attributes and role expectations include:

 

  • Validation of results and provision of comprehensive reports to assist with client or clinical decisions in a time critical manner. 
  • Have well rounded understanding of Quality control and Quality Management across various departments and solid understanding of NATA requirements/ ISO 15189.
  • Perform regular maintenance and basic troubleshooting on instrumentation, equipment and manual techniques and maintain accurate records.
  • Participate in regular training for relevant techniques and instrument operation and engage in ongoing departmental competency programs and external quality assurance initiative.
  • Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, along with report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Laboratory Manager and the Chief Scientists from Core Laboratory to identify areas for improvement and implement workflow enhancements for continuous laboratory improvement.

 

About you

 

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements: 

 

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent 
  • Previous experience in a multidisciplinary clinical laboratory
  • Recent experience in Haematology, Haemostasis, Transfusion medicine and Biochemistry.
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures. 
  • Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities 
  • Demonstrate integrity and professionalism in all tasks
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department specific vaccine preventative diseases.
