About The Role
As a multi-skilled Scientist, you will be based within a busy satellite laboratory servicing St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital. You will contribute to a multi-disciplinary team, with a strong focus on haematology and transfusion science, supporting hospital workflows and turnaround time expectations.
Key responsibilities:
- Perform routine and urgent diagnostic testing across a multi-disciplinary laboratory, with a focus on haematology and transfusion science
- Analyse specimens from receipt through to result validation, ensuring accuracy and clinical relevance
- Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation in accordance with standard operating procedures
- Monitor quality control and participate in quality assurance and audit activities
- Investigate and resolve analytical and technical issues, including troubleshooting equipment and results
- Liaise with clinicians and internal teams regarding results, referrals and urgent requests
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including workflow optimisation and assay development
- Support training and development of team members as required
- Maintain compliance with laboratory protocols, accreditation standards and WHS requirements
About You
We are seeking an experienced Scientist with multi-disciplinary capability and a strong background in haematology and transfusion science. You will be confident working in a hospital laboratory environment and bring a calm, focused approach to managing priorities in a fast-paced and high-pressure setting. You value working as part of a close-knit team and demonstrate professionalism, accountability and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, clinically accurate results.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (or AIMS-accredited equivalent) is essential
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Scientist in a diagnostic laboratory is essential
- Demonstrated expertise in haematology and transfusion science
- Experience working in a hospital laboratory setting is highly desirable
