About Us

Genomic Diagnostics is the national genomics service for the Healius Pathology network. We provide comprehensive genetic and genomic testing across oncology, reproductive health, inherited disease, pharmacogenomics and haematology to a broad network of public and private hospitals and community referrers across Australia.

As genomic medicine continues to rapidly evolve, we are expanding our capabilities and investing in new technologies to support clinicians with timely, high‑quality and clinically meaningful genomic information. Our work plays a vital role in accurate diagnosis, personalised treatment and delivering answers for patients and families across the country.

About The Role

To support our ongoing growth and the expanding scope of genomic services we deliver, we are seeking highly motivated Laboratory Assistants to join our team. You will work closely with our Technicians and Scientists and contribute to essential pre‑analytical workflows that enable high‑quality genomic testing for patients across Australia.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Routine receipting and processing of specimens, including operation and maintenance of analysers
  • Pre and post analytical specimen handling
  • Identification and prioritisation of urgent specimens
  • Filing and storage of specimens and data entry
  • Assisting Scientists in the lab as required
  • Continuous learning of processing requirements of different types of samples for different tests
  • Staying up to date with processing updates
  • Responding to result, sample requirements and general queries
  • Identifying and resolving problems at the pre‑analytic stage

 

About You

To be successful in this role, your attitude, motivation and attention to detail will be just as important as your experience. We are looking for individuals who are curious, eager to learn and committed to supporting high‑quality laboratory work in a fast‑paced diagnostic setting.

You will ideally bring:

  • Previous experience working within a laboratory environment
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to following procedures accurately
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, collaborative approach to teamwork
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and perform well under pressure
  • A willingness to learn and adapt as our services and technologies evolve
  • Certificate III in Laboratory Techniques or Pathology Collection (desirable)
