About the role 

 

The purpose of the role is to provide a quality genetic testing service to all clients and to practice within the philosophy of Healius. The Medical Scientist will undertake skilled work in a skilled area of the laboratory and perform designated genetic testing procedures as outlined in methods and procedures. They will possess technical skills required to work in all facets of a multi–sectional laboratory as necessary.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform genetic testing procedures and result analysis in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ensure adherence to NPAAC/NATA ISO15189 requirements, internal protocols, and clinical guidelines
  • Work cooperatively as part of the analytical team and wider Genomic Diagnostics team
  • Contribute to internal and external quality control and equipment maintenance activities are completed within pre-determined timeframes and recorded as per the quality team’s requirement & NPAAC/NATA guidelines
  • Report all instruments, consumables, reagents, and all other laboratory related issues to the relevant team leader or Chief Scientist
  • Manage time effectively to ensure a balanced workload vs output ratio for the team
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with Healius privacy policy
  • Where directed, participate in research and development of new tests, implementation of new instrumentation and procedures or the revision of existing procedures.
  • Meet and exceed WH&S standards and requirements
  • Report all incidents/non-conformances at the time of occurrence

About you 

 

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements: 

  • Bachelor of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science or equivalent qualification recognised by professional bodies such as AIMS, ASM, AACB
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within the respective discipline
  • Knowledge of the Ultra (Triple G) computer system would be an advantage
  • Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting  
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification  
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures 
  • Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities 
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department specific vaccine preventative diseases
