What You Will Be Doing
As a Pathology Collector (Phlebotomist), you will be part of a dedicated team, reporting to the Collector Lead, with opportunities available in both hospital-based and accredited collection centre settings.
Hospital-Based Phlebotomy: Work across various hospital wards including paediatrics, Medical, ICU, CCU, Emergency, Oncology, Special Care Nursery, Maternity and Rehabilitation providing high quality pathology collection services in a clinical environment.
Collection Centre Phlebotomy: Perform venepuncture and specimen collection in an outpatient setting, delivery exceptional patient care and ensuring accurate sample collection.

Your key responsibilities will include:
- Liaising & building effective relationships with a range of different stakeholders within the hospital including doctors, nurses and patients
- Advanced Pathology Collection - Collecting samples (blood and non-blood) across different wards & areas including paediatrics, difficult bleeds and AGB’s with care and attention
- Keeping meticulous records for every patient and sample
- Liaising with a range of different people including customers, clinic staff and couriers
- Transporting samples to laboratory
What Type of Person Will Be Successful
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced Pathology Collector. You could currently work in a hospital or a clinic and are looking to diversify and grow your career. You could also be a Registered Nurse looking to swap the overnight work for regular daytime shifts.
You will be a great communicator and relationship builder, be professional and proactive in your approach to working with different stakeholders in a hospital environment, and will be someone who goes above and beyond to provide quality patient care.
These are the type of attributes & skills you would possess:
- A demonstrated experience and knowledge in pathology collection
- Certificate III in Pathology Collection/RN or EN qualification or a healthcare background
- Paediatrics Collection experience, ideally including infant heel pricks
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with a high level of empathy
- You are organised, with strong time management and attention to detail
- You are able to work autonomously, sometimes working independently in a solo clinic
- You hold a valid Driver's license and have flexibility to travel to multiple clinics/hospitals & labs
- You hold a working with Children’s Check or be willing to obtain one
- You either hold a current police check or be willing to obtain on
- You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen, or hold a valid visa with permission to work
Vaccination Requirements
- Vaccine preventable disease evidence such as Hepatitis B is a requirement of this role
- Other vaccinations based on location may be required / setting
