About The Role
You will lead the day-to-day operations of a satellite laboratory, ensuring high-quality, efficient and compliant diagnostic services. This role brings together operational leadership, people management and technical oversight, with accountability for performance, quality and service delivery.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead laboratory operations to ensure delivery against performance targets, turnaround times and service expectations
- Manage laboratory resources, including staffing, rostering and operational costs in line with budgets and KPIs
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation and quality standards (including NATA, TGA and internal procedures)
- Oversee internal quality control and external quality assurance programs, driving continuous improvement in laboratory practices
- Lead, coach and develop team members, fostering a high-performing and collaborative team environment
- Support with hiring, onboarding and ongoing capability development of laboratory staff
- Oversee validation and implementation of testing methodologies in collaboration with Pathologists and senior scientific staff
- Maintain safe work practices and ensure compliance with WHS requirements
Build and maintain effective relationships with partnered healthcare facilities and key internal stakeholders - Monitor, report on and improve laboratory performance, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and service delivery
About You
We’re looking for an experienced and knowledgeable multi-disciplinary Medical Laboratory Scientist who brings strong technical expertise, along with the ability to see the bigger picture and contribute to how laboratory operations perform and evolve.
You may have prior leadership experience or have demonstrated capability through mentoring, training or supporting others, with a clear interest in leading teams and improving ways of working. You’re confident managing competing priorities, maintaining high standards and building effective relationships, and are motivated by the opportunity to make an impact beyond day-to-day laboratory work.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent (AIMS recognised) is essential
- Demonstrated experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, ideally within a multi-disciplinary role
Requirements
- Ability to provide evidence of immunisation requirements, including Hepatitis B
