About the role
We have an exciting full-time opportunity for a Chief Scientist to manage and support a dynamic team in the Microbiology sciences.
As the Microbiology Chief Scientist, you will become part of a passionate, vibrant and engaged team. You will be responsible for:
- Leading and supervising a team of Scientists, Technical Officers and Laboratory Assistants
- Technical delivery of the service across Queensland
- Developing and validating methods for detecting, isolating and identifying microorganisms in various samples
- Interpreting data and preparing detailed reports to support clinical diagnostics, research studies and regulatory compliance
- Staying updated with the latest advancements in microbiology and implement best practices in the laboratory
- Ensuring that protocols and procedures are kept up to date
- Mentoring and coaching of technical staff to develop and grow professionally in laboratory management and testing skills
- Liaising with internal staff and clients on testing schedules, methods, procedures and results
- Developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives including conducting regular reviews of internal and external measures of performance
- Monitoring the delivery of quality tasks in line with the Quality System manual to ensure the laboratory is performing effectively and to a high standard
- Management of Work Health and Safety compliance, specifically in regard to risk management, incident management, injury management, induction and training, health and safety planning, inspections and audits
- Management of Quality Standards ensuring that the Department delivers an efficient service of high quality
About you
To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:
- Bachelor of Science or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within either of the two disciplines
- Proficient in laboratory techniques and familiarity with laboratory equipment
- Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
- Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
- Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department specific vaccine preventative diseases
