About The Role

This position is based in Genomic Diagnostics QLD located in the QML Pathology building, Murarrie. We are looking to appoint a dedicated and quality driven Laboratory Technician to join our team. The department offers a comprehensive genomic service. This full-time position of 76hrs per fortnight may be required to work various shifts between the hours of 6am and 10pm, Monday to Saturday, including a weekend on-call roster where required. Your key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

• As directed, perform specimen reception duties, unpack, and maintain stock inventory to ensure continuity of testing and service provisions.

• DNA extractions, culturing, harvesting, of post-natal/constitutional, haematology-oncology and/or prenatal samples by conventional cytogenetic, FISH and/or microarray technology,

• Perform regular maintenance and basic troubleshooting on automated and manual instrumentation and equipment, ensuring optimal performance. Complete all relevant documentation associated with these tasks including reporting and/or escalate to senior staff.

• Participate in regular training for relevant techniques and instrument operation, maintain current scientific knowledge via journal reviews and attendance at both internal and external continuing education activities and engage in ongoing departmental competency programs

• Perform all quality control testing necessary for each of the assays performed, and review, document and act on the results according to departmental policy.

• Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required.

• Liaising with internal and/ or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary; and

•Compliance and adherence with QML Pathology Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes.

 

About You 

To be considered for this position, you will need to have a great blend of skills, including:

• Certificate or Associate Diploma of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory) or equivalent
• Established experience in genomic testing is desirable
