Schedule: Position will be required to work various shifts between the hours of 5:00am and 00:30am Monday to Saturday, participation in weekend and public holiday rosters is required.

About The Role

We are seeking an Scientist who is highly motivated to become part of a passionate and engaged team, who will be responsible for: 

  • Reporting blood films and conducting specialist testing
  • Operating haematology analysers
  • Performing manual and automated diagnostic testing
  • Performing routine procedures from specimen reception through to result execution for pathological diagnosis, including specimen dissection
  • Maintaining records and documenting results in accordance with protocols
  • Maintaining and operating laboratory equipment in line with established procedures, and assisting with stock control
  • Maintaining current scientific knowledge and participating in staff training as required
  • Participating in routine and audit‑related quality assurance activities
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and assisting with the development of new assays
  • Liaising with internal and/or external stakeholders (including referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
  • Complying with all policies, procedures, workplace health and safety requirements, and quality assurance processes

 

 

About You

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements: 

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science), or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge and skills in Haematology (preferred)
  • Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
  • The ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in line with NATA/ISO accreditation
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • A strong commitment to quality and excellence
  • A willingness to follow departmental and organisational policies and procedures
  • A positive, collaborative approach and strong interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Strong time‑management skills and the ability to manage in a busy environment
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, self‑initiative and exceptional attention to detail
  • This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department specific vaccine preventative diseases
