About the role 

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Molecular Microbiology Scientist to conduct and report diagnostic tests for detecting and characterising microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi using various PCR techniques.

 

As a Molecular Microbiology Scientist, you will become part of a passionate, vibrant and engaged team who are responsible for:

 

  • Perform Infectious Microbiology testing using various techniques, including PCR.
  • Verification of results and provide comprehensive reports to assist with client or clinical decisions. 
  • Ensure the precision and accuracy of all Molecular Microbiology tests conducted, to assist with clinical decisions.
  • Document and interpret test results accurately and promptly.
  • Perform regular maintenance and/or basic troubleshooting on instrumentation, equipment and manual techniques.
  • Participate in regular training for relevant techniques and instrument operation and engage in ongoing departmental competency programs and external quality assurance programs
  • Maintain accurate records of all laboratory activities, including test results, quality control data, and equipment maintenance logs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and the Chief Scientist to identify areas for improvement and implement workflow enhancements for continuous laboratory improvement.

 

About you

 

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements: 

 

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent 
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within the respective discipline
  • Proficient in Molecular Microbiology techniques and familiarity with laboratory equipment
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures 
  • Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities 
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrate integrity and professionalism in all tasks
  • This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department specific vaccine preventative diseases
