About The Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail‑oriented Toxicology Scientist to join our high‑throughput toxicology laboratory. As a Toxicology Scientist, you will contribute to method execution, sample analysis, and quality assurance processes that support clinical, forensic, workplace testing, and research programs.
Key Responsibilites:
- Perform routine and complex toxicological analyses using techniques such as LC-MS/MS, immunoassay platforms, and high-throughput screening systems.
- Prepare, extract, and process biological specimens (e.g., urine, oral fluid, hair) following validated laboratory procedures and strict chain-of-custody requirements.
- Interpret analytical results, review chromatographic data, and verify findings in accordance with laboratory policies and accreditation standards.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain analytical instruments, ensuring optimal performance and timely troubleshooting of technical issues.
- Perform routine quality control (QC), participate in proficiency testing, and assist with continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to NATA/ISO 17025 or ISO 15189 requirements, including documentation, reporting, and quality system compliance.
- Ensure accurate and complete scientific recording in LIMS/LIS and maintain clear, traceable documentation for regulatory and audit purposes.
- Work collaboratively with senior scientists, laboratory technicians, quality officers, and management to uphold scientific integrity and laboratory performance.
- Participate in training activities, mentoring junior staff, and supporting a culture of safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
About You
This role is suited to an experienced Scientist with strong analytical chemistry expertise, experience in pathology or forensic/toxicology settings, and the ability to work efficiently in data‑driven, high‑volume workflows. To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:
- Degree or higher qualification (BSc, MSc, or PhD) in Toxicology, Analytical Chemistry, Forensic Science, Biomedical Science, or a related discipline
- Experience working in a toxicology, forensic, clinical, or high‑throughput analytical laboratory
- Proficiency with chromatographic and mass spectrometric platforms (e.g. LC‑MS/MS, GC‑MS) and/or immunoassay technologies
- Strong understanding of analytical principles, assay validation, and quality control
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation practices
- Ability to interpret complex analytical data and apply sound scientific judgement
- Familiarity with chain‑of‑custody procedures, regulatory frameworks, and accreditation requirements
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including scientific reporting
Desired Skills:
- Experience in similar high throughput pathology environment
- Understanding of analytical chemistry and LCMS operations
- Experience working with laboratory automation or robotic platforms
- Understanding of risk management, laboratory safety, and continuous improvement tools
