This is a unique opportunity to take functional ownership of our enterprise SAP HCM environment and shape how our HR and Payroll systems support a national workforce. You’ll play a pivotal role in improving system performance, strengthening processes and ensuring quality and compliance, while leading the design, configuration, testing and integration of key HR & Payroll system changes.

You’ll collaborate across Payroll, IT and external vendors to lead meaningful change, solve complex challenges and have a deep strategic impact on how the organisation operates, all while providing trusted SAP HCM expertise to the business.

About Us

Healius has an expansive network of over 100 medical laboratories and 2000 patient collection centres operating across metropolitan, regional and remote Australia.

We provide 1 in every 3 pathology services in Australia, extending from exclusively servicing some of Australia’s largest and most complex private and public hospitals, to small Indigenous Australian communities.

This means that you will be working in a business large enough to offer you job stability & security, interstate mobility and the opportunity to fulfil your career ambitions.

What You Will Be Doing

As the HR SAP HCM Manager, you’ll take ownership of the SAP HCM application and ensure day‑to‑day system changes, testing activities and work requests are delivered accurately and on time. You’ll work closely with Payroll, IT and external SAP partners to coordinate updates, support critical payroll activities and maintain system reliability.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and coordinate SAP HCM work requests, ensuring they are logged, prioritised, documented and progressed through the correct approval channels.
  • Oversee business impact analysis and testing activities, reviewing results and ensuring all changes are properly validated before release.
  • Complete and review system configuration for BAU items, ensuring accuracy and alignment with payroll and system requirements.
  • Support key payroll operations, including pay runs, bank file transfers, postings and issue resolution during critical cycles.
  • Lead the preparation and execution of end-of-year activities, working with external consultants to ensure the system is ready for new financial year updates.
  • Investigate system errors, analyse root causes and provide clear guidance or fixes to Payroll Team Leaders and Payroll Officers.
  • Design, review and execute UAT plans and test scripts, ensuring high‑risk scenarios and business requirements are covered.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and external SAP partners to communicate progress, risks, timelines and changes.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce manual work and enhance overall system performance.
  • Support knowledge transfer by providing guidance and training to Payroll SMEs on system structure, testing processes and EOY functions.

What Type of Person Will Be Successful

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced SAP HCM specialist with strong functional knowledge and a solid understanding of payroll operations. You’re confident coordinating system changes, analysing issues, supporting testing cycles and communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across a large organisation.

You will bring:

  • Deep expertise in the SAP HCM system, including configuration, functional support and troubleshooting.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience gathering business requirements, preparing documentation, supporting testing and managing system change cycles.
  • Experience leading end‑of‑year payroll activities, including SAP Notes, patches, STP updates and reconciliation requirements.

  • A strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and payroll processes.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, prioritise effectively and maintain high attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify system and process improvements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications for documentation, analysis and reporting.
  • Confidence investigating system errors, responding to queries and supporting Payroll SMEs through system or process changes.

The following would also be highly advantageous:

  • Exposure to Kronos or similar time and attendance systems.
  • Experience contributing to major SAP Payroll or STP implementations.
  • Familiarity with EBA/Agreement interpretation and NES requirements.
