This is an opportunity to contribute your property and leasing expertise within a large, complex national healthcare business, where legal advice is practical, commercial and closely connected to business decision‑making.
This is a 12‑month fixed‑term contract maternity leave cover, based in our Sydney CBD office. The role provides exposure to a high‑volume, fast‑paced property and leasing portfolio, working closely with business stakeholders and a high‑performing Legal team. It is well suited to an experienced property lawyer who enjoys operating in an in‑house environment, balancing commercial priorities while supporting critical healthcare operations across Australia.

What You Will Be Doing
Reporting to the Head of Legal – Property & Commercial, you will support the business primarily across property and leasing matters, with some exposure to broader commercial work across the portfolio.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide accurate and timely legal advice to stakeholders and executives on a wide range of property and leasing matters, including:
- retail and commercial leases
- lease negotiations, variations, options, renewals and extensions
- make good obligations, incentives and deeds of consent
- assignments, subleasing and licences
- agreements for lease
- Draft, review and negotiate leases, agreements for lease, deeds and other related legal documentation.
- Apply effective legal and commercial risk management techniques and provide proactive advice on legal issues.
- Communicate and negotiate with external parties including landlords, tenants, agents and their legal representatives, as well as regulators, public authorities and external counsel.
- Manage a high‑volume, fast‑paced portfolio, including complex matters involving multiple stakeholders and competing timeframes.
- Potentially assist with general commercial legal matters such as NDAs, procurement, service level agreements and B2B agreements.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant property, commercial and regulatory legislation.
What Type of Person Will Be Successful
To be successful in this role, you will be a senior property lawyer with strong leasing experience and a clear commercial, in‑house mindset, comfortable working at pace and partnering closely with business stakeholders.
You will ideally bring:
- A minimum of 8 years post‑qualification experience, gained in‑house or within a firm advising corporate clients.
- Solid experience across retail and commercial leasing, including agreements for lease, renewals, incentives and make good obligations.
- Experience managing a high‑volume portfolio, with the ability to prioritise multiple matters under tight timeframes.
- A track record of running matters end‑to‑end, including drafting, negotiating and concluding transactions.
- Experience working closely with business stakeholders, providing practical, commercially focused advice.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence negotiating with counterparties and external advisers.
- A high standard of professional ethics, integrity and attention to detail.
- A professional and collaborative working style, with the ability to take direction and contribute positively to team culture.
