About the role
We are currently seeking a Part-Time Scientific Officer to join our friendly team based in the Tamworth Laboratory.
Reporting to the Lab Manager, this multi-faceted role will involve the accurate and efficient testing of specimens, quality assurance and instrumentation, as well as other ad-hoc duties as required:
- Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing
- Performing all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis, including specimen dissection
- Assisting with Stock Control
- Compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols
- Maintaining all equipment and operating equipment in line with protocols
- Maintaining current scientific knowledge
- Participation in both routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities
- Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required
- Participating in training staff
- Liaising with internal and/ or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
- Compliance and adherence with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes
About you
To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:
- Bachelor of Applied science (Biomedical science, Medical laboratory science) or equivalent
- NOOSR or AIMS if qualification from outside Australia
- Experience in Haematology and Biochemistry is highly desirable however training can be provided to the successful candidate where needed
- Be able to work both morning and afternoon shifts, and to participate in a rotating weekend roster
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and other departments both verbally and written
- Self-motivation and the ability to work within a team and without supervision
- High level of attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to demonstrate sound organisation skills
- A professional attitude towards confidentiality
- Ability to understand and ensure compliance with WH&S policies and guidelines
