About the Role
We are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a Procurement Specialist to join our team, made available due to internal movement. This role sits at the heart of our transformational journey, led by an innovative and forward-thinking manager committed to redefining procurement’s strategic impact on innovation and profitability.
As Procurement Specialist, you will take a lead role in shaping the future of procurement within our organisation, focusing primarily on direct procurement in the highly specialised and dynamic pathology industry. This is far from a traditional procurement role; it’s about leveraging your expertise to navigate a complex supply chain landscape, identify untapped opportunities, and deliver measurable value.
Your ability to uncover, analyse, and capitalise on opportunities in this niche sector will place you at the forefront of a modern procurement approach, where strategic sourcing and supplier collaboration drive outcomes that align with organisational goals. You will be both supporting and owning your own projects. These will often have a strong demand management component and require deep operational involvement.
Together with key clinical and commercial stakeholders and critical vendors, you will assist in the development, deployment and management of procurement strategies to deliver sustained value and competitive advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting Category Managers, and the GM of Procurement in identifying, validating and implementing transformational improvement opportunities. This includes 30%-40% “traditional” procurement levers (e.g. source to contract strategies) and predominantly opportunities across the “new procurement” (e.g. demand management)
- “Owning” procurement projects or spend sub-categories yourself
- Understanding business requirements and engaging with key stakeholders on a per-needs / per-project basis
- Providing commercial and market insights, as well as spend analysis for the identification of savings across various Pathology categories
- Ensuring project plans are deployed and appropriate reporting is in place for the purposes of tracking benefits and project status and see these through from concept to implementation
- Contributing to the development and embedding of Procurement processes across the Pathology business units
What Type of Person Will Be Successful
You are a results-focused individual with a drive for innovation. You are curious and get excited about creating and leading change that ultimately impacts the wider business strategy. You will be experienced in the healthcare space and be well versed in direct procurement.
These are the type of attributes & skills you would possess:
- Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Economics or Business
- Preferable to have at least 2-3 years proven procurement, strategic sourcing (incl. supplier negotiations) and spend analytics experience
- Evidence of identifying and implementing business performance improvement opportunities in previous roles
- Understanding of cost structures, vendors commercial practices , contract management and vendor performance management
- Advanced excel skills, demonstrated experience using ERP systems and business intelligence tools is preferable
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
